Crowns & Bridges

Crowns and bridges are useful when replacing a cracked or leaking filling, restoring a fractured tooth, or to cover discoloured and misshapen teeth. Bridges, as the name suggests, will bridge the missing gap in your teeth and make it look natural again.

A dental bridge is a custom-made, new artificial tooth made of porcelain that replaces one or more missing teeth, and is supported by adjacent teeth or by a dental implant. A dental bridge or artificial tooth looks completely natural, as it is tinted to match the colour of your existing teeth and is attached from the gum-line to look like a real tooth.

An onlay is a durable, strong porcelain filling that fits onto the tooth, protecting it from further decay. Dental onlays are used as an alternative to dental crowns, to fill fairly large cavities in cases where there may not be enough of the existing tooth surface left to support a white.

Caps or crowns are used in cases where none of the other procedures will be effective or if the tooth structure has been seriously undermined. Crowns have the longest life expectancy of all the possible cosmetic restorations.

For the majority of individuals with dental crowns, replacing them is an inevitable task. With proper teeth maintenance and good dental hygiene practices, you should be able to maximize the life of your dental crown. However, if there are any problems to your dental crown, you should contact Byford Dental immediately for evaluation.
